Daniel Mitchell, Project Intern, updates us on what has been happening with the project in the last few weeks…
The project is really moving forward quickly and this post will keep you up to date with everything that has been going on this week. It seems we’ve done everything from completing questionnaires to attending meetings, and everything from organising to being creative!
We started the week by contacting as many people in Whitley that we could think of about questionnaires and focus groups. These included: Mother and Toddler groups, lunch clubs, community classes, sports sessions, children’s activities, faith and worship groups, local charities and many, many more! We are now in the process of organising to meet with or sending questionnaires out to the groups that responded. If you haven’t heard from us and would like to get involved, we would love for you to drop us a message, we’ll get back to you as quickly as possible!
During this week we have also met with the travel team at the University of Reading, who were really interested in hearing about our project and talked us through several interesting things and helped us start to think about the importance of sustainability.
We have some really exciting news too! We have managed to arrange two days where we will be in Reading town centre. This will enable us to continue promoting our project, interact with the public and fill out more questionnaires. We will be in Broad Street Mall on Friday 26th September between 9am and 3pm and in The Oracle on Saturday 27th September from 9am to 1pm. Make sure you look out for us and come and speak with us if you want to fill in a questionnaire, if you want to tell us about transport in Whitley or if you want to give us your own suggestions about how the £1million funding could be used! We look forward to seeing you all!
Once we’d arranged these two days in the town, the students and project interns from the University set to work on putting together some posters and leaflets that they could take with them. When these are finalised, we’ll be posting them up on here so keep an eye out for these!
Next week, we will be meeting with ReadiBus, Reading Buses, the University and the council. Remember to stay tuned for the latest updates across our social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. You can also fill in our questionnaire here and find the latest of our blog posts on the Big Local Whitley site here, or on our WordPress blog here.
